Karin Helmstaedt
Karin Helmstaedt was born in eastern Canada. With a German father and Canadian mother, she grew up with a lively mix of cultures as the daily norm, and ever since her days of competing with Canada's National Swim Team, she's never been able to shake the travel bug.
That's why after studies in Physical and Health Education and Literature in Toronto and Montreal, she set out for Paris and the Sorbonne, where she studied French Literature.
It was there she began writing as a journalist, and freelancing as a translator and presenter at sporting events. She reported extensively on doping in the former East Germany, and in 1997 co-produced the prize-winning documentary "Staatsgeheimnis Kinderdoping" for German public television. Her subsequent work on the subject brought her to Berlin in 1998, where she continued freelance writing for newspapers and magazines, and contributed to a book. She also joined DW-TV as a news translator and speaker, and in 1999 began as presenter of "Germany Today". Now she's part of the euromaxx team.
She spends most of her free time with her husband and two children, loves to be outside and still gets in the water as much as she can. She also sings, writes, has a faible for cookbooks (and food!), and makes a point of being a tourist at least once a month.

Peter Craven
Peter Craven has been with the Journal for over a decade as a news producer, editor, reporter and presenter. He's been in Berlin, a city he adores, for even longer.
Peter studied political science at York University in the north of England. He then travelled extensively before moving to Berlin, where he has worked as a teacher, translator and interpreter.
He was among the first people to climb up onto the Berlin Wall on the famous night of November 9th, 1989. Which seemed appropriate after spending years exploring all the possibilities resulting from Berlin's location at the heart of Europe, on the fault line between east and west. This included many visits to the countries of eastern and central Europe.
Berlin remains as exciting as ever and Germany is playing an increasingly significant role on the world stage. Peter is committed to helping the world have a window on Germany - and DW-TV is the best place to do that.
Peter's favourite websites are imdb.com, the Internet Movie Database, and planet-rugby.com, which speaks for itself.
